Preparation:

  • Make sure your phone battery is charged to 70% or more
  • Backup your device data
  • Enable USB Debugging, by open Settings > Developers Option > USB Debugging
    If Developers Option is hidden, go to Settings > About Phone > Software Information > More > Build Number (tap on it until it says you are a developer.)
  • Turn OFF Fastboot, by go to Settings > Battery Manager > Turn OFF Fastboot.
  • Download and extract the latest version of the All-in-One Toolkit you see on that page on your computer

How to Unlock Bootloader the HTC ONE M8

  • Open the One M8.exe toolkit.

  • Select Download HTC Drivers and click Go.

  • Install the drivers.
  • Select Register at HTCDev and hit go

  • follow the steps on the HTCDev site to register
  • Next, Plug your device in via USB.
  • Highlight Get Token ID and click Go.

  • Close the command prompt when the device enters Fastboot mode.

  • Right-click in the second command prompt and select Mark and copy everything from <<<< Identifier Token Start >>>> to <<<<< Identifier Token End >>>>> and save it in your computer.

  • Highlight Submit Token ID and click Go.

  • Login to HTCDev and then go to HTCDev.com and click on Unlock Bootloader.
  • Select the HTC One M8 from the drop down on the right and click Begin Unlock Bootloader.

  • Skip the steps and hit next until you get to a text box to input the Token ID.

  • Paste the Token ID we copied earlier into the text box and click Continue.
  • Save the Unlock_code.bin file that is emailed to you to your desktop.
  • Highlight Unlock Bootloader and click Go.

  • Select the Unlock_code.bin file and click OK.
  • Use the volume buttons to highlight yes and the power button to select it when prompted by your device.

 

How to Flash a Custom Recovery on the HTC One M8

  • Enable USB Debugging, by open Settings > Developers Option > USB Debugging
    If Developers Option is hidden, go to Settings > About Phone > Software Information > More > Build Number (tap on it until it says you are a developer.)
  • Highlight the custom recovery you want to flash and click Go.

  • The device will boots back into Fastboot mode, close the first command prompt.

  • Close the second command prompt when it says finished.
  • Reboot your device by use the volume buttons to highlight Reboot and push the power button to select it.

 

How to Root the HTC ONE M8

  • Select Perm Root and click Go.

  • After you see something was transferred, close the first command prompt.
  • Select the SuperSU.zip file and swipe to flash it.
  • Tap Reboot > System
  • If the SuperSU App exist on your Application Menu on your smartphone it means you’ve succesfully rooted your device.
